Batemans Marine Park - Consultation and management
Consultation
Batemans Marine Park Advisory Committee
Like all other NSW marine parks, Batemans Marine Park has an advisory committee made up of representatives of various local community and stakeholder groups. This is the main avenue for consultation.
The Batemans Marine Park Advisory Committee was appointed in early in 2006 following a public call for expressions of interest in committee membership.

Wider consultation
The Marine Parks Authority holds local public meetings on important issues relating to Batemans Marine Park, such as the zoning plan, and conducts public surveys from time to time. Both are advertised in the media.
Members of the public are welcome to contact the marine park office.
Management
The zoning plan
The Marine Parks Authority released the final zoning plan for Batemans Marine Park in December 2006 following extensive public consultation. The plan, which comes into effect from 30 June 2007, divides the park into four different zones:
- sanctuary or ‘no take’ zones of 19% of the total area, which provide the highest level of protection. Recreational fishing is prohibited. Swimming, diving, sailing and snorkeling are permitted
- habitat protection zones (43%), which offer a high level of protection. Recreational fishing and some commercial fishing are allowed
- general use zones (37%), which allow most recreational and commercial activities as long as they are ecologically sustainable
- special purpose zones (0.4%) allowing for activities such as aquaculture and research.

The operational plan
The Marine Parks Authority will develop an operational plan for the marine park with input from the Batemans Marine Park Advisory Committee and the public. The operational plan will outline how the Authority will manage the marine park in a sustainable way that is consistent with the objectives of the Marine Parks Act 1997.
