Lord Howe Island Marine Park - recreational and commercial activities

The Lord Howe Island Marine Park zoning plan aims to conserve marine biodiversity while allowing sustainable recreational and commercial activities. The summary below shows the activities permitted in habitat protection, special purpose and sanctuary zones. It’s best to use the summary in conjunction with a printout of the marine park zoning maps.

Special conditions for commercial and recreational activities

(a) NSW Fisheries Regulations

(b) Fishing only by the following methods: hand held line or rod and reel, dip or scoop nets, landing nets & baits traps (as defined in the Fisheries Management (General) Regulation 2002)

(c) Restricted to species in table 1 below

(d) Restricted to species in table 2 below

(e) Permit required for anchoring of vessels over 5m in the lagoon. Vessels over 25m may only be anchored in designated anchoring areas. Anchoring in sanctuary zones (other than designated areas) prohibited

(f) Domestic animals are permitted except where currently prohibited by legislation administered by the Lord Howe Island Board
