"Snapper" Pratt joins Marine Parks to remind fishers: "Don't forget the most essential bit of tackle these holidays - your zoning guide"

A marine park zoning guide is the first bit of fishing tackle you need before venturing out on one of the South Coast’s beautiful marine parks these holidays.

That’s the message from the managers of the two marine parks located on the NSW South Coast and one of Canberra’s foremost fishing gurus, Dr Bryan (Snapper) Pratt.

Jervis Bay Marine Park’s Frances Clements and Dr Brendan Kelaher from the Batemans Marine Park say the first bit of tackle for all recreational fishers is the guide to the different zones within the parks.

“This guide is the most essential bit of tackle for your fishing trip. It will make you aware of where the different zones are within the parks, where the sanctuaries are which are protecting and restoring marine biodiversity, and where you can and cannot fish.

“Holidays are expensive enough without unwittingly getting a fine for fishing in a sanctuary. The zone guides are free and available from many outlets and businesses in the towns located near the parks and in Canberra,” they said.

Snapper Pratt said “I’ve been writing about the great fishing in the Batemans Marine Park since the park’s gazettal in 2007 and with proper care and management from the authorities and the users that could continue in perpetuity.

“Batemans Marine Park and Jervis Bay Marine Park offer so much opportunity for families who fish,” he said. “But don’t forget that all important first bit of tackle, your guide to the zones within the parks.”
