New appointments to Marine Park's Advisory Committee anounced

The Manager of the Port Stephens-Great Lakes Marine Park Max Haste has welcomed new appointments to a committee of community members who advise the Marine Parks Authority and Ministers on the management of the park.

Mr Haste thanked everyone who nominated for appointment to the committee and also thanked the members of the community who served on the previous committee. He said they had worked hard and on a voluntary basis since the marine park was declared in 2005.

“The last committee had a big job to do in that it was the very first advisory committee for the park. Members worked extremely hard to contribute to a zoning plan for the park and in doing so addressed issues raised by their local community relating to the sustainable use of the marine park.”

Mr Haste said the advice and knowledge of the advisory committee had been invaluable in establishing the park and said the current zoning plan had been shaped with their input.”

He said it was encouraging that a number of people had re-nominated and said it was also pleasing to see new nominees express interest in providing advice about the marine park.

“I look forward to working with the new committee over the next four years as we consolidate management of the marine park and begin to see the results from our research and monitoring program,” said Mr Haste.
