Solitary Islands Marine Park – draft zoning plan

Changes are proposed to the zoning plan for Solitary Islands Marine Park to improve the protection of marine biodiversity and sustainable use of the park.

The proposed changes are in response to recommendations from the recently completed zoning plan review. The review included community consultation on the existing zoning plan, preparation of a zoning plan review report, comments from the Solitary Islands Marine Park Advisory Committee and a set of directions from the Ministers on proposed amendments to the zoning plan.

Public consultation

Submissions on the draft zoning plan are now closed.

Thank you for your submissions and involvement.

The draft zoning plan was publicly available for comment for a period of three months. An information package on the proposed changes to the zoning plan was released on 28 May 2010. Public consultation on the draft zoning plan commenced on 16 June 2010 and concluded on 17 September 2010. Extensive community consultation was undertaken to obtain feedback from the public and a range of stakeholder groups on the draft zoning plan.

Community information days were held at various times and locations throughout the public consultation period.

Information package

The following information package was available during the public consultation period which provided explanatory and background information relating to the draft zoning plan.

The draft zoning plan will be contained in the Draft Marine Parks (Zoning Plans) Amendment (Solitary Islands and Jervis Bay Marine Parks) Regulation 2010 and include several proposed changes to the boundaries of zones and to the regulation of activities in the park, together with changes to the structure of the zoning plan.

Next Steps

All submissions received during the consultation period will be analysed. This information will be used by the NSW Marine Parks Authority to produce a final zoning plan in consultation with the Jervis Bay Marine Park Advisory Committee.
