NSW Marine Parks Advisory Council

Vacancy to represent the interests of Aboriginal people

Expressions of interest are invited to fill a vacant position on the Marine Parks Advisory Council to represent the interests of Aboriginal people.

The Marine Parks Advisory Council is established under the Marine Parks Act 1997 and includes members representing fishing, conservation, tourism, marine science and scuba diving.

The Council provides advice to the Marine Parks Authority and Ministers including on the conservation of marine biological diversity within marine parks, the ecologically sustainable use of marine parks, and the public use and enjoyment of marine parks from a statewide perspective.

The Council meets up to three times each year, generally in Sydney. Members are paid a daily sitting fee, and the costs of travel and accommodation associated with attending meetings are met.

The Minister for Climate Change and the Environment and the Minister for Primary Industries will jointly appoint a member for a term of up to four years.

Persons interested in being appointed to the Council should submit an Expression of Interest outlining their relevant skills, knowledge and experience and any letters of support to:

Solitary Islands Marine Park Advisory Committee

Vacancy to represent the interests of Aboriginal people

The Advisory Committee of the Solitary Islands Marine Park (SIMPAC) provides advice to the Marine Parks Authority and Ministers about key issues for stakeholders and park users.

Expressions of interest are invited to fill a current vacancy on the Committee representing Aboriginal people.  Applicants should have knowledge of the Solitary Islands Marine Park and its management, conservation of marine biological diversity within marine parks, the ecologically sustainable use of marine parks, and the public use and enjoyment of marine parks. 

Appointment to the SIMPAC will be offered to a person who is willing to assist in consultation on these issues, can demonstrate that they have relevant knowledge and can best represent the interests of Aboriginal people.  Appointments are unpaid with reimbursement for travel available.
